So it’s been almost a week since the last post, so it’s probably time for another even though I’ve not done anything too exciting.

First off nintendo have decided that this is gonna be a random announcement week. There is confirmation of a new Zelda Lego set coming next year, which judging by the video seems to be the Ganon fight from Ocarina of time (with a new Zelda!). I’m so glad they’re finally doing another one, I’m honestly surprised it’s took them this long.

The other two announcements are more annoying in the sense I can’t see what they are on time. There’s a thing about the Mario film (today) which seems to be info on it so likely a trailer and tomorrow there’s a new Pokopia trailer which I’m so hyped to see but again I’ll miss it. (Today causa heading out for the gig, tomorrow cause of the last opticians appointment).

But anyway, the weekend was largely uneventful, mostly cause of being wiped energy wise. However the IT blu ray came so I’m all set to watch that whenever. But mostly I was just flop, though I have done Pokémon ZA some more, mostly sidequest stuff though I have progressed on the main quest and finally met Corbeau who is really hot (though shorter than I expected).

Monday was the trip to the vets cause of Naryu’s ears and it seems they’re (finally!) all sorted so she was at last able to have the first of her jabs. That’s good, though it was a different vet this time and his unfamiliarity was clear.

I picked up the empire Stranger Things from sainsburys, along with some of the big Doritos bags cause they were on offer then came back, flopped and did more ZA.

In the night I watched the latest Once Upon A Time In Space, which has been this interesting thing about astronaut and others who have worked in the space programme. It’s been really interesting so far with them talking about their experiences openly, both the food and the bad. (And the first ep was so sad cause there was one guy talking about his brother who sadly died when the shuttle blew up) This one made me sad about Mir, even though it was getting rundown at this point (and last weeks had incidents happening there). It’s just a shame it was scuppered due to politics.

Then I watched IT Welcome To Derry. This week was a more ‘tame’ ep in comparison to the first two, but it was still really great. (And damn who is letting these kids out unsupervised so often!) And yay Taniel (Joshua Odjick) got lines this time! And I saw he’s in the next time trailer so I’m excited for next week’s.

On Sunday I watched the next ep of Wednesday, leaving one ep left. Instead of waiting a week I decided to watch it last night. So what did I think of Wednesday season 2? (Under a cut for spoilers, and likely rambles)

I’m heading out in a few hours (around 2) for the James Marriott gig tonight, yipee! I would usually head out later cause being in Birmingham for a gig means I can’t do too much (and I’d rather go to my usual cinema than the odeon for stuff) but I wanna try for the Stranger Things cafe so fingers crossed I can this time. Then it’ll just be a matter of killing time (which again hard cause I can neither take anything to do or get anything I see, unless it’s small).

Guess who's bored?

That AO3 meme everyone's been doing. Took away all the fanart and translations for this one.

1. Under what rating do you write most?

  • General - 103 (81.75%)

  • Teen - 22 (17.46%)

  • Mature - 1 (0.79%)

Mind you, there is some fic not posted on AO3. There would be another item on that list if there was. Iykyk.

2. What are your top 3 fandoms?

  1. Doctor Who (1963) - 32 (25.40%)

  2. Anders als die Andern (1919) - 22 (17.46%)

  3. Ich und die Kaiserin (1933) - 18 (14.29%)

No surprise that Doctor Who (classic) wins. Over a fourth of the fics posted! Also no surprise that everyone's favourite gay violinists and my one-person-fandom are hanging out in the top 3. I was expecting more Sir Lancelot.

3. What is your top character you write about?
Went with a top 3.

  1. Ian Chesterton - 19 (15.08%)

  2. Barbara Wright - 17 (13.49%)

  3. Kurt Sivers - 16 (12.70%)

Bonkers! Kurt is right behind Barbara (also I wasn't expecting Ian to be above her.)

4. What are the 3 top pairings?

  1. Paul Körner/Kurt Sivers - 16 (12.70%)

  2. Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright - 11 (8.73%)

  3. Ian Chesterton & Barbara Wright - 3 (2.38%)

The Barbarian love is real. But the gay violinists are thriving.

5. What are the top 3 additional tags?

  1. Prompt Fill - 110 (87.30%)

  2. 3 Sentence Ficathon - 60 (47.62%)

  3. Microfic - 50 (39.68%)

While I knew there was going to be a shitton of Prompt Fill, I wasn't expecting it to be over 100. Or that many microfics/3 sentence fics for 3SF. I did post the all seperately.

Other interesting thing:

  • Have 126 fics posted.

  • Out of the 27 fandoms, only 11 have more than one fic posted (8 have more than 2).

  • That makes 16 fandoms with only one fic.

  • Of those 16 fandom, 2 have my fic as the only work. 2 have other works, but they're fanart and/or fanvids. One I know there's more fic out there. One has a placeholder as the other work, so it doesn't count.

  • Have written 5 crossovers.

Just a quick update. There wasn't any new word on Sunday due to a dead computer. Hopefully it will be fixed soon, and I'll try to get a new prompt up this Sunday.

In the meantime, since we have no deadlines any of the previous words can always be used.

(Please put some good vibes out in into the universe for my computer, which has my life on it. Thanks).

The What If? series by Randall Munroe and Henry Reich (previously at Neatorama) has returned to form with a theoretical question that would surely lead to the death of everyone on this planet. Humans have learned to concentrate light into a small space to produce lasers, which can be very dangerous depending on their power. What if the sun did that, with all its power? What if the star concentrated all its light and heat into a single laser beam the diameter of, say, a meter? As you might guess, this is not good. Yet how each of us would die depends on where you are when it happens, and what would happen to the planet itself might surprise you.

All in all, we would prefer the sun to stay the way it is, radiating heat and light in all directions, and sending us just the right amount to power life on earth.

I hit Walmart and Agway while I was downtown. At home I did a load of laundry, hand-washed dishes, emptied the dishwasher and ran another load, went for several walks with Pip and the dogs, baked chicken for the dogs’ meals, cut up chicken for the dogs' meals, scooped kitty litter, and showered.

I pulled spaghetti sauce out of the freezer for supper and also browned ground beef to make the base of ~something for the coming cold days (I'm thinking our family version of goulash, which is nothing like actual goulash, which I found out when I ordered it out once and was like, wtf is this?!! o_O).

I finished the Hallmark Christmas movie I started last night and watched another. I think the light snow was making me feel seasonal-ish.

Temps started out at 26.6(F) (forecasted to be 23) and reached 34.5 (forecasted to be 30). Both the low and high temps were slightly higher than forecasted. Today is supposed to be the coldest day of the week, and I hope that holds. There was a coating of snow on the ground when I left the house this morning, but the main roads were pretty good. It snowed all day, but so light you could barely see it, and it melted as soon as it hit the ground, thankfully. It was very windy for most of the afternoon and I had to dress very warmly (aka, so many layers) on our walks.

Tumblr-speak has made it into my everyday language. When I let Ti out this afternoon I asked him if he was sure he wanted to go outside because it was awfully ‘wimdy’ out.

Just finished: Katabasis by R.F. Kuang. Yeah, she lands the ending. This was just too good—scathingly funny, unexpectedly sweet, and a worthy take on Dante's Inferno. It's one of those ones where I rush to Goodreads to see what stupid people thought about it and I think the complete opposite of that. I just love Alice so much, basically.

Currently reading: Kalivas! Or, Another Tempest by Nick Mamatas. Complete coincidence that I'm reading two genre takes on classic works of literature with similar titles one right after each other. Anyway, this is the cyberpunk take on The Tempest that you didn't know you needed. Caliban/Kalivas is the last free-range human, i.e., lacking in post-human augments and able to die in a post-apocalyptic world of godlike enhanced assholes. It leans very heavily into the play's anticolonialist themes and also into our current state of being ruled by lunatic billionaires who want to live forever. It's very good, obviously.

Drama watching and one trailer

The 2nd episode was wonderful. I’m really so glad that I started it, even though it still makes me very tense during watching. But wow, what a great script, and great directing, and fantastic acting. And I’m not talking only about the two leads. There are so many wonderful supporting characters here. And the antagonists are nuanced and well written, especially Dao. What an amazing character, I love her the most after Claire, who is my absolute favorite.

The cut version is available on Youtube here.

The uncut version is available on OneD website here (and I’ve just checked - you can watch both episodes there without logging in or paying).

Moon River

It’s a new sageuk about the Crown Prince who lost his beloved Crown Princess five years ago, and dedicated his life to finding and punishing people responsible for her death. And now by chance he meets a woman, who is the saddle-carrying merchant with no memory of her past, and who looks exactly like his dead wife. Also apparently there will be bodyswap later.

I watched the first two episodes available for now, and I like it a lot. It’s charming and funny and sweet, and occasionally heartbreaking. I love both the lead couple and the secondary couple. There are no unnecessary love triangles (and I hope it will stay that way). And there are so many fantastic supporting characters.

This drama will have 14 episodes and it’s available on VIKI.

My Secret Vampire and The Story of Bi Hyeong: Enchanted Master of the Goblin

If you like supernatural BL dramas more on the fluffy side, then these two Koren BLs are fluffy, adorable and have a happy ending. They have a somewhat similar plot, too. In the first one a sweet, naïve young man starts living in a house with four vampires. In the second one a sweet, naïve young man starts living in a house with two dokkaebi. And there is also a seductive and cunning gumiho involved.

My Secret Vampire has 8 episodes, The Story of Bi Hyeong has 12 episodes. Both dramas are available on iQIYI.

Last, but not least, this trailer for the Japanese BL movie 10 Dance looks amazing – gorgeous and sensuous, and sexy.

It’s about two dancers, who are champions in two different kind of dances – one in Latin dances, and the other in ballroom dancing. They are also polar opposites in terms of personality, but they agree to train together for an upcoming competition. At first they clash of course, but soon they become drawn to each other. And one of the leads is played by Machida Keita (Kurosawa from Cherry Magic).

It will air on Netflix, on December 18.
