REC: The 2025 "Be the First!" Collection (Multifandom)

bethefirst is a challenge that invites participants to create the first fic for an otherwise fic-less fandom (terms and conditions may apply), and this year's collection is now live!

Be the First! 2025 Collection

It features 41 fics in 41 fandom of all sorts, including books, movies, TV shows, comics, and video games—and ranging from "I can't believe there wasn't already fic for this" to "I've never heard of this in my life, I need to check it out!"

There are also some fandom promos available on the DW comm, where writers have given a run-down of the canon they were hoping to write for.

I'm still making my way through the collection, but I definitely recommend checking it out and manually browsing, since not all of the fandoms have been canonized as AO3 tags yet. You might find something you've been waiting years for, or discover a tantalizing new canon to check out.

So I have 2 fics eligible for this, one finished, one not finished. I am mulling over whether to put them in the collection or not.

Ah, that's really cool! This is an event rather than a permanently open collection, so I think you can't add anything to it now - but if you're still working on the unfinished one the next time the community is running a round, taking part is easy and fun.

Oh well, never mind. I doubt I'll be writing anything eligible when they run it again, it was just a thought. IIII will know that I wrote the first fic for certain fandoms, anyway. 😊
