digitally minimizing

over the past couple of weeks i have been deleting photos from my phone and cloud storage! its part of a whole digital minimializm upheaval in my life with a heavy emphasis on privacy and actual human connection. in the process ive realized that alot of my data footprint is in PICTURES. thousands upon thousands of pictures, most of which are frankly duplicated upwards of 10 times each (if its a selfie session easily 30-50 photos, out of which i like one or two)

so awhile ago i started with the strategy of favoriting photos that i really liked out of these photosets, and therefore my whole photo storage!

this has made it easier to go through and remember and delete things that truthfully i have never looked back on or thought about again. in the moment these things felt very meaningful to capture in pictures (so meaningful i needed 127 photos and 11 videos of a single concert), but looking back i have almost no attachment to them! and im a sentimental person.

so i have been using screen time where i would have scrolled previously to go through my library on my mobile phone and continue MASSSSS deleting. today i got rid of another 2.5k easily!

it feels good also to empty these essentially over memorialized memories because some of them were painfully associated, or i looked at them and some pain of rememberance came up with it, or disgust, or just plain old detatchment. even the ones that were great great memories but i know i would appreciate more if i could say print 25 photos of the whole trip out and make a memory book- it felt like a weeding process.

i repeat, i am a sentimental person and keeping photos, taking photos, curating photos, making collages and mood boards and vision boards is really really important and integral to me fundementally. which is why this feels even like an artistic extension of myself.

and i get to look at all my photos in the process of this decluttering!!
yayyy!!

Greater Northshore Bike Connector Map 2.0.6 – 1 November 2025 – is now available on github, as is MEGAMAP 2.0.6a.

This release reflects a two-week intermittent closure of the Sammamish River Trail in Woodinville, showing an UNOFFICIAL detour. It also shows the newly extended bike lanes on 124th Ave NE in Kirkland (up to NE 124th St, yes, same number different direction), and an update to the extended closure of Kirkland Central Connector through at least the end of November for emergency sewer line repair.

At least that one has a signed detour.

Screen resolution preview of MEGAMAP 2.0.6a, big enough to see the special warning signs on the two affected trails.

All permalinks continue to work.

If you enjoy these maps and feel like throwing some change at the tip jar, here’s my patreon. Patreon supports get things like pre-sliced printables of the Greater Northshore, and also the completely-uncompressed MEGAMAP, not that the .jpg has much compression in it because honestly it doesn’t.

Enjoy biking!

The Great British Bake off set the rules. And many others followed - often quite successfully. There's the glass blowing show, the face painting show, the potters show. One of the best is the Great British Sewing Bee has done it very successfully for a bunch of seasons.

They all have required key ingredients: Two judges, one or two hosts, two or three different kinds of projects - short, long and different - all required to be completed in a very short amount of time. And contestants who make a mistake and cry and say they are going to leave... One contestant wins each week and one contestant is kicked off the show.

It was time for the perfect parody and now we have it.

It's only on BBC 4 but someone finally uploaded (YouTube) an episode of Game of Wool - or as it should have been called The Great British Wool off. I just watched it. As a show to highlight a craft (or crafts, as they hit on knitting and crochet) and those who are very good about it, it's quite the failure. But, as a parady of all those other shows, it's perfection.

Timed knitting or crocheting is as successful as slow drag racing. But this show makes fun of every single element of its predecessors. Beautifully.

Agriculture, forestry and other land uses together account for about 62% of Africa's greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, land degradation, deforestation and biodiversity loss are eroding Africa's resilience.

Belldandy Operational
Belldandy Operational

Belldandy, my Apple Mac Studio M4 Max, is back in my home office – dual Mac Studio monitors ablaze and all external SSDs networked. My cherry table is outfitted with a new, crystal clear desktop protector. I am so very happy to have my desk back. There is again room for me to write on letter paper and use my computer keyboard at the same time. The twin monitors were sorely missed, and I’ve spent time setting up app windows and workspaces across both. I feel like everything had been crammed into a little box – and now that I’m out, I’m able to stretch my arms and legs again.

Belldandy is still working off of WiFi as I haven’t yet located my ethernet cable to connect directly to the cable modem. Also, the external optical drives and Time Machine HDDs have not yet been connected. They’ve been disconnected since Belldandy’s relocation to the bedroom, and they can wait a little longer to be brought back.

I also have a new Haworth Desk Chair that replaces my old Steelcase office chair, which was falling apart. The new chair is excellent, being comfortable and easy-to-configure. And it’s so nice not to be rolling on carpet anymore.

As cities around the world grapple with escalating mental health challenges, researchers from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) have pinpointed the ideal levels of urban greenness that maximize psychological well-being. Published in Nature Cities, the study synthesizes four decades of global evidence to demonstrate a curvilinear—inverted-U—dose-response relationship, challenging the long-held assumption "greener is always better."
