The toyshop was a clever way of showing how Marya was both trying to move on and entirely failing to. And it gave so much material for the others to play with, that must have been intentional.

Also I'm 100% certain that at some point down the line there'll be a scene where Brennan describes the approach of her nemesis bird and Emily's face will just LIGHT UP. And it'll be awesome.
