He says it with scotch soap and shin oil, Fang’s vest slung over his thigh and worked with a rag and careful fingers until it’s spotless and supple. With needle and thread, fixing that second button. God knows how it’s come loose, given that he’s never once seen Fang fasten the fucking thing.

Deep, still waters can drown a man just as surely as a storm, and Izzy knows what happened the last time he spoke the words aloud.

But.

I love you, you twat, he says with the mute shove of leathers back into grateful hands, trusting it’s heard.
